The Verbano, from the point of view of the road, is well connected both in the southern part - hence from the Po Valley - and with the European countries. The connection with Milan is ensured by the A8 motorway, while you can reach Arona - a beautiful town and a crucial gateway to Lake Maggiore - also via the state highway 32. The Simplonio SS 33 runs along the lake on the western shore up to Stresa. On the Lombardy side, on the other hand, the Provincial Road 69 runs alongside villages and villages along the lake. Liguria, Alessandria and Milan-Turin are connected to the Piedmont side by way of the A26 motorway, called dei Trafori, with exits on Lake Maggiore in Arona, Meina, Carpugnino, Baveno-Stresa and Gravellona Toce.

Arriving on the A26 motorway, Hotel la Fontana can be reached either by taking the Carpugnino exit or by taking the Baveno exit, in both cases follow the signs for Stresa: the hotel remains on the main road.

Lake Maggiore is also well connected with regard to air flights. In fact, it can count on being close to:

Milan-Malpensa Airport: international, the second in Italy for passenger traffic, only 32 km from Stresa.

Milan-Linate Airport: with national and European short-haul traffic.

Turin-Caselle Airport: in the northern part of the Piedmontese capital, about one and a half hours from Lake Maggiore.

Locarno Airport: a small airport, located on the Magadino plain, right at the north-eastern end of the Verbano.

There are good connections to the railway line on Lake Maggiore, both on the Lombardy side and on the Piedmont side. A nice opportunity to travel comfortably, enjoying landscapes and wonderful views. Trains connect the most significant towns of Lake Maggiore to the most important Italian cities and beyond. There are good connections with Switzerland and therefore with the rest of Europe. This is thanks to the north-western line, the Arona-Domodossola railway and the Sempione tunnel. In the southern area, instead, the railway lines coming from Milan, Turin and Genoa pass through both Stresa and Laveno, continuing in both cases even higher, along the coast of the Verbano. Here is a brief summary:

Piedmontese slope: international line Milan-Domodossola-Brig-Paris with stops in Arona, Meina, Belgirate, Stresa, Baveno and Verbania. Get off at the Stresa stop.

Lombard slope: Milan-Saronno-Varese-Laveno line that continues along the eastern shore.

Swiss side: the Federal Railways link the various Swiss cantons with the city of Locarno, and then continue towards Lake Maggiore. As far as cycling enthusiasts are concerned, it is good to know that Trenord's train services include the possibility of transporting the bikes on the train - even if under certain conditions - by paying a small surcharge for transport.
